Artist Statement

Hand crafted art gives a glimpse into the heart and mind of the artist. I create mosaics, working with both new and used materials, often in the same piece.

I love to give new life and purpose to discarded or recycled materials seeing what else it can become. I delight to see light playfully reflecting from a glossy surface or to be surprised when sunlight through glass builds rainbows in unexpected places. Inspiration comes to me from many directions. The sunlight through leaves and branches, colors of a flower, animals, and people. A photo or a scene might cause me to wonder how I would capture what I see or how it makes me feel – it’s “essence” – using pottery shards, found objects or hand cut glass tiles.

Handcrafted art takes time, patience, vision and a lot of painstaking work. But when the piece is completed and it is right, is so very satisfying!
