Artist Statement
Let color inspire you!
I was born in Bronx, New York. At a very early age I realized that my grandfather was an oil artist with his easel set up in his bedroom. I loved to watch him paint and knew it was something special I wanted to do as well. My first "gig" was at 10 years old when I had the opportunity to paint a Christmas scene on a store front window, I chose to paint full size praying hands in gold and from then on I was hooked.
Doing bits and pieces of different art styles including trying to copy my grandfather’s art was fun but didn't feel like it was giving me sparks. Over a long career in the seafood business, I promised myself that when I retired I would jump in with both feet and find what set off sparks with my love of color and intriguing designs. Jump forward to three years later - I found an explosion of love of colors that convinced me to share with others.
I always start my paintings with just colors in my mind. It is not unusual to find me waking up in the middle of the night to go to my studio and create the colors I had in my dreams. The reaction I have received with my acrylic paint and imagination was beyond anything I could have anticipated. To watch adults and children stare into my canvases and smile is an indescribable feeling of joy!
